Tangible Benefits of Visiting a Family Dentist

Family DentistHaving a family dentist has very distinct advantages. Most people have probably heard it all before: how visiting the dentist is good for your teeth, and you should have a regular routine of visiting the dentist at least twice a year. What we have discovered is that when you have a family dentist, it becomes much easier to fall into the routine because, while visiting the dentist is still not on anybody's most-favorite-thing-to-do list, doing things as a family tends to make it less tedious. Families who see a family dentist often hold each other accountable both to coming in and keeping up with their appointments and also from an oral hygiene perspective. There are other advantages to having a family dentist. The most potent of these is what we like to call the trust factor. Family doctors have had this relationship with families for a very long time, and family dentists do, as well. Many people suffer from a level of dental anxiety, the fear or concern about going to see the dentist. Having a family dentist can help alleviate some of these concerns by creating an environment of familiarity and security. Think about it from this perspective. When you go in to see a new dentist, you will be in an unfamiliar environment surrounded by people you do not know and in a place that instinctively raises levels of anxiety. The strange sounds and smells, the dentist chair, and the equipment all play into these concerns. On the other hand, a family dentist is a friend, someone who many children will grow up seeing. Watching their parents, grandparents, or their children get treated helps people to relax. The familiarity with the office, the staff, and the dentist all go a very long way to helping you realize how safe the environment is. Once you have made that mental leap, getting a procedure done goes from being something that causes you a great deal of anxiety to something that is no big deal.

There are other, more tangible, reasons to bring your family in to see the family dentist. There are two things most families need. The first is a saving of time, the second is convenience. Both of these are factors in how we treat you at a family dentist clinic. Timing is hard, especially when you have more than one family member who needs procedures or to come in for their bi-annual checkup. To help with this, we have learned to work with your schedule. By scheduling appointments close together, we can have the entire family get their procedures done in a way that maximizes the schedule, making it so you do not have to take unnecessary additional trips. In the same vein of thought, we have brought all the family dentist procedures in-house. This means that once you walk through our doors, you never have to leave again to go get any procedures done. This added convenience allows you to get anything from x-rays to extractions, from dentures to braces, all done in the friendly and safe environment of your family dentist.
