How pediatric dentistry care can improve your child's self-esteem.
Self-esteem can certainly be influenced by whether or not you like your smile or like to smile. The same can be true for children. In our dental office, we can improve their self-image and give them the confidence they need to smile brightly. This is done by performing regular teeth cleanings. We prefer to see your child twice a year so that we can clean their teeth and remove any plaque that has built up. This is critical for their health because it serves to prevent cavities from forming. It is also important for their appearance because when plaque does build up, it can make it appear that the teeth are stained when they are actually just dirty. Kids have a more difficult time brushing their teeth than adults. This is due to them rushing, a lack of skill and sometimes a lack of caring. The problem is that this makes plaque buildup a likely reality, creating the need for more regular dental care.
Pediatric dentistry care can keep your child in good oral health.
We can treat your child as they age, growing with them. During these regular dental appointments, we will look for signs of cavities or infection so that we can treat them as soon as they begin to develop. This will help by preventing discomfort and potential tooth loss. By keeping your child's teeth healthy, we can help their baby teeth to stay in place for as long as possible. This is important because their baby teeth hold a spot for the permanent ones to come in. If they fall out too soon, the remaining teeth can shift, eliminating the space for the new tooth and leading to eventual overcrowding, spacing issues and the need for braces. While we cannot always prevent the need for orthodontics, we can certainly help to reduce it by working to keep their baby teeth in place. In some cases, we may suggest that they wear a mouth guard for additional protection, as is often necessary when playing sports. If they do eventually need braces, we will let you know so that you can explore all treatment options.
