Get Questions Answered About Teeth Whitening

When people are determining whether or not teeth whitening is right for them, they often have many questions. At our office, we encourage questions because we want to alleviate any concerns you may have and encourage you to make the correct decision for your teeth. When it comes to your smile, we want you to feel confident and pleased with whatever results you gain from our office. To help you determine what is right for you, we have compiled a list of some common questions and our answers to them.

Does teeth whitening affect my tooth's nerve?

After performing many studies, no evidence has been found that teeth whitening affects the nerve of a tooth. Any sensitivities are due to already existing enamel weakness, decay, or gum recession. If you have decay or gum recession, you should consult with our office before using whitening techniques. If you have existing enamel weakness, a desensitizing toothpaste before and after treatment can help alleviate discomfort and strengthen enamel.

Can teeth whitening mess up my fillings?

Teeth whitening should not have any effect on your fillings or other dental restorations. Teeth whitening cannot weaken restorative structures, and it won't leave your teeth vulnerable.

You may even consider having your fillings replaced to match your whitened teeth because the whitening solution does not normally lighten fillings. This is not necessary, but some people want fillings to be as camouflaged as possible.

How long will my teeth stay white after treatment?

Teeth whitening treatment does not offer permanency, but it is long-lasting. For many, professional whitening will keep your teeth white for over a year. For the brightest white, you may want to receive continuous treatment so that your teeth do not fall back into a yellow state.

Is teeth whitening costly?

The cost of your teeth whitening method will depend on which you choose. For the least expensive option, a teeth whitening kit for home use is very affordable but provides the least impressive results due to the low dose of whitening chemicals it has. An in-office treatment or treatment that uses specialized formulas from our office will be more costly, but still affordable. Our teeth whitening treatments will provide the most attractive, whitened results available. Unfortunately, most insurance companies will not help cover the cost of teeth whitening. If you need your teeth whitened, we still encourage you to consult with us about pricing options because you may be pleasantly surprised with what you discover.

These are a few of the questions we receive most commonly. These are impressive, valid questions that we were happy to answer. If you have any more questions regarding your teeth whitening options, please feel free to contact our office for more information. We can also offer you information about the different types of teeth whitening methods we provide and what options we think are best for your needs. If you are interested in having your teeth whitened, don't wait when you can have amazing results in as little as one visit.
